Nejrychlejší romská dechovka se vrací do Prahy s novým albem!
Nejrychlejší dechovka na světě za svou čtvrtstoletí trvající kariéru odehrála více než 3000 koncertů po celém světě a vydala řadu vysoce ceněných alb. Na letošní rok kapela připravuje nové album, z nějž minulý rok u nás představili single „Me Sem Rom“. A na albu se chystá jedno velké překvapení…!
Jedna z nejlepších současných živých kapel pochází ze zapadlé vesničky na východě Rumunska. Od ostatních balkánských dechovek ji snadno rozeznáte: hraje s pankáčským nasazením a jazzovou virtuozitou. Kapela vznikla poblíž hranice s Moldávií, ve vesnici Zece Prajini, kde žije 80 romských rodin, které se po generace věnovaly svým polím a hudbě. Za totality to byl kraj odříznutý od civilizace, díky čemuž se tu uchovala hudba, která jinak v jiných krajích Rumunska zanikla. Kořeny této hudby sahají až do Osmanské říše a čerpají ze stylu tureckých vojenských kapel.
Dominantním nástrojem těchto “tureckých muzik” byla původně zurna, hoboji podobná píšťala, která svým ostrým zvukem pronikla i tou nejhlasitější bitevní vřavou. V 18. století vyměnily vojenské kapely dosavadní orientální nástroje za evropské, ale původní turecký způsob hry si ponechaly. Skupinu objevil roku 1996 německý hudební nadšenec a později impresário Henry Ernst – a když ji přivezl do Londýna, Times její hudbu označily za “pekelný nářez”. Fanfare Ciocărlia natočila deset alb, z nichž řada pronikla do čela žebříčků a inspirovala filmaře – renomovaný turecký dokumentarista Fatih Akin zachytil jejich triumfální koncerty v berlínských klubech. Expert na hudbu Východní Evropy Garth Cartwright o skupině nadšeně píše ve své knize Princové mezi lidmi, filmový enfant terrible Sacha Baron Cohen si u nich objednal hudbu k filmu Borat, jejich skladby byly mnohokrát remixovány a adaptovány desítkami DJů i kapel.
Na pozdější alba skupina zařadila radikální úpravy západních evergreenů – včetně filmového tématu z Jamese Bonda a Caravan od Duke Ellingtona – které dokazují, jak nicotné jsou hranice mezi hudebními žánry. Kapela též exceluje v unikátních scénických projektech – Gypsy Queens & Kings je přehlídkou těch největších romských osobností a Balkan Brass Battle je dramatickým soubojem mezi Fanfare Ciocărlia a hudebně spřízněnou srbskou dechovkou, známou z filmů Emira Kusturici.

The fastest Romani brass band returns to Prague with a new album!
The world's fastest brass band has played more than 3,000 concerts around the world and released a number of highly acclaimed albums in its quarter-century career. The band is preparing a new album for this year, from which they presented the single "Me Sem Rom" in 2024. And there is one big surprise on the album...!
One of today’s finest live bands comes from a remote village in eastern Romania. It is easy to distinguish it from other Balkan brass bands: it plays with a punkish commitment and jazz virtuosity. The band originated near the Moldovan border, in the village of Zece Prajini, home to 80 Roma families who have devoted generations to their fields and music. During the totalitarian era, this was a region cut off from civilisation, thanks to which music has been preserved here, which otherwise disappeared in other parts of Romania. The roots of this music go back to the Ottoman Empire and draw on the style of Turkish military bands.
The dominant instrument of these “Turkish musics” was originally the zurna, an oboe-like flute whose sharp sound penetrated even the loudest battle. In the 18th century, military bands replaced the existing oriental instruments with European ones, but retained the original Turkish way of playing. The band was discovered in 1996 by German music enthusiast and later impresario Henry Ernst – and when he brought it to London, the Times described its music as “a hell of a blast”. Fanfare Ciocărlia recorded ten albums, many of which topped the charts and inspired filmmakers – the renowned Turkish documentary filmmaker Fatih Akin captured their triumphant concerts in Berlin clubs. Eastern European music expert Garth Cartwright wrote enthusiastically about the band in his book Princes Among Men, film enfant terrible Sacha Baron Cohen commissioned them to score the film Borat, and their songs have been remixed and adapted by dozens of DJs and bands.
On later albums, the band included radical arrangements of Western evergreens – including the James Bond film theme and Duke Ellington’s Caravan – that prove how insignificant the boundaries between musical genres are. The band also excels in unique stage projects – Gypsy Queens & Kings is a showcase of the greatest Roma personalities, and Balkan Brass Battle is a dramatic duel between Fanfare Ciocărlia and the musically related Serbian brass band known from the films of Emir Kusturica.
