Award-winning play Fancy Maids returns for a one-night-only fundraiser reading on Saturday, December 13th at 2:00 PM.

This special event will raise funds to support the upcoming film adaptation of the play, with all proceeds going toward the project’s 2026 proof-of-concept production.

Join us for an afternoon of powerful storytelling, as the new adapted script is brought to life for the first time. After the reading, stay for a talkback with the cast and creatives, as they discuss the process of adapting the piece from stage to screen and the story’s enduring themes of womanhood, survival, and sisterhood.

About the Play
Set in 1853, Fancy Maids follows a group of women who have sacrificed everything to escape slavery in the antebellum South. When one of their pasts comes back to haunt them, they find themselves tempted by violence and forced to reconcile with their trauma.

Exploring themes of womanhood, survival, and sisterhood, the play turns the lens away from plantation narratives to reveal the untold stories of Black women navigating freedom, morality, and power in a world that still seeks to own them.
