About this Event

Family Science Days: SEN hour booking

Join us for a quieter, more relaxed session at the Chelmsford Science Festival Family Science Days, before the main event opens to the public.

During this dedicated SEN Hour, visitor numbers will be limited, noise levels reduced where possible, and staff and volunteers will be on hand to support families and make adjustments where they can.

New for 2026: Bookable Activities Available During SEN Hour

A selection of activities and performances will be available during this session, including:

AI Robotic Theatre Experience at 9.30am

Ray Bubbles' Bubble Show at 10:00am

Supersonic Farts with Helen Rose at 10:00am

These shows are then repeated throughout the day. Please book your Family Day session here first. Once you've registered for a Family Day timed entry slot, visit Family Science Day (Sunday) - ARU to view and book available shows.

A range of additional family activities across the festival site that have been identified as particularly suitable for SEND visitors will be available from 9.30am - 10.30am as well.

Creating an Inclusive Space

The SENstation will be available throughout the day on both Saturday and Sunday, providing a calm, sensory-friendly space for children who may feel overwhelmed and need time to regulate in a safe and inclusive environment. The SENstation features bubble tubes, infinity tunnels, sensory lighting and a variety of tactile experiences designed to help visitors relax and recharge.

Important Information

Not all festival activities will be open during the SEN Hour.

You are welcome to remain on site once the session ends and enjoy the wider Family Science Days programme.

No additional Family Science Day ticket is required if you have booked this SEN Hour session but remember to book anyother shows you'd like to see taking place throughout the day.

The main festival opens to all visitors from 10:30am.

Please only book this session if a child or young person in your group has Special Educational Needs or disabilities.
