FAQ
Do I have to be a Y member in order to attend?
No. All of the YMCA of Central Ohio's Family Support events are open to members and non-members alike! This event is specifically for families who have a child with delays, disabilities, or special needs. Upon entering the Y, just tell the front desk staff that you are here for Family Swim or find YMCA of Central Ohio staff at the front table. Either our staff or volunteers will direct you to the Family Changing Rooms or Male/Female changing rooms depending on preference.
How much does it cost to attend?
Zilch. Nada. Nothing :) Thanks to YMCA of Central Ohio and Delaware Community Center YMCA, the event is free of charge as a service to families of children with disabilities.
Can I drop my child off at the event and pick him/her up after?
No. This is a Family event and we desire for you to have just as much fun as your kiddo! We encourage family participation and hope you'll connect and build relationships with other mom's, dad's and caregivers just like you!
Can my child's nurse or aid attend instead of me?
Yes! We welcome your child's provider as we know how important these great folks are. Simply enter your provider's name instead of yours when selecting the adult admission ticket.
Will lifeguards be on duty?
Of course! While you will be actively supervising your child/youth, our Y lifeguards are on duty. Please be aware that the pool area will be noisy and the lifeguards will blow their whistles to get swimmers' attention.
What if I don't think my child will last the whole two hours?
Not a problem at all, please come and go as you please between 1pm to 3pm. We have arranged the afternoon to be an open house format.
How deep does the leisure pool go?
The leisure pool is a zero-depth entry pool but maxes in depth at 3'6"
Will life jackets be available to borrow or can I bring my own?
Yes, life jackets will be available for use on a first-come-first-served basis. You are welcome to bring your own life jackets that are USCG approved.
Is the pool accessible?
The indoor leisure pool/playground is zero depth entry and we will have a water wheelchair for those that might need it (first come, first serve) We also have a wheelchair ramp in the lap pool.
Do I have to swim with my child? What are the pool policies?
According to Delaware Y pool policies, children ages 5 and under, must be accompanied by an adult/guardian (Age 18 or older) in the water and remain within arms reach. Children ages 6, 7 and 8 must have an adult actively supervising them in the pool area. Children/youth who need assistance or a flotation device must have an adult in the water with them and will not be permitted in the deep end of the pool. Any individual who cannot swim is not permitted in the deep end of the pool. Any questions regarding pool policies can be directed to, Aquatics Director at 740-203-3051.
How do I enter and exit the pool area?
Entrance and exit to the pool area is through the locker rooms only.
Do we have the pool all to ourselves?
