About this Event

This 2002 children's film directed by German filmmaker Tomy Wigand is loosely based on the novel of the same name by Erich Kästner.

Jonathan has already been expelled from eight boarding schools. When he starts at the boarding school of the famous St. Thomas Choir in Leipzig, he doesn’t think he’ll stay there long. But the headmaster, Justus, takes him under his wing. He himself spent his youth at a boarding school, understands the challenges of growing up, and knows how important friendship and camaraderie among boys are. Sure enough, Jonathan quickly finds new friends in the four boys from his dorm.

During a concert recording a confrontation arises with the “externs” - the classmates from Leipzig who don’t live at the boarding school and with whom the Thomaner have been at odds for ages.

Germany 2002, 110 min., recommended for ages 11 and up, German with Engl. subtitles
