Join us for a relaxing morning of fishing at the EMBARC pond with the Arabia Mountain NHA Alliance.
About this Event

Description: Join us as we partner with Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area Alliance for a relaxing morning of fishing at the EMBARC Youth Farm's pond.

What to expect: As you enter the gate of the park, you will turn left to follow the sign for parking and park in the horse corral on the right at the top of the hill. There will be signs and cones to help with parking. After parking, turn right, walk by the bee apiary, go through the open gate, then walk down the hill to get to the pond. Kids will have an opportunity to earn a Junior Angler Badge from the Alliance's Ranger Jennifer.

Program leader: Your guide will be Ranger Rachel, the DeKalb County Park Naturalist at EMBARC Youth Farm and Ranger Jennifer, the Program Director at Arabia Mountain NHA Alliance.

Where to meet: Park in the horse corral then walk to the pond. Follow all signs!

What to bring: Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing as well as your own water and snacks. The pond is approximately 500 yards away from the parking, so you are welcome to bring wagons or other containers to help move equipment from your car to the pond.

If you have an easily transportable camp chair or outdoor sitting mat, feel free to bring those as well since there is limited seating provided. Bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen for sun protection, as well as insect repellent to keep the bugs at bay.

We will have limited equipment to borrow, so we encourage you to bring your own gear. We also highly encourage life jackets be worn by children under the age of 10 or any participants who don't know how to swim.

Restrooms: The only available restroom is the portapotty in parking lot by the covered basketball courts. There is a short walk from the pond to the bathroom. Rangers will be available to direct you.

Recommended ages: This program content is designed for adults and older children, but all ages are welcome.

Dogs: This program is NOT appropriate for dogs, so please leave your pup at home.

Weather contingency: This program will be held rain or shine unless conditions are deemed unsafe by DeKalb County Recreation, Parks & Cultural Affairs (RPCA).

Walking distance: Less than a 5 minute walk from parking area to the pond.

Exposure: The pond has both shade and full sun. You are free to fish in any area along the bank. We ask that participants stay off of the floating dock and wooden pier.

Trail surface & accessibility: DeKalb County Recreation, Parks & Cultural Affairs is committed to providing inclusive and accessible programs. Reasonable accommodations may be available upon request. To request an accommodation, please contact the program organizer at least 48 hours in advance of the event. Questions if this program will work for your mobility? Contact Ranger Rachel: [email protected]

Waiver & Release: By registering for this activity, each participant hereby acknowledges and agrees that he/she is participating in this program at his/her own risk and holds DeKalb County and all its officers, agents, servants, and/or employees harmless from and against any and all claims, loss, damage, charge, or expense to which they or any of them may be put or subjected by reason of participant’s participation in this program.
