The Cleveland State University School of Music's Vocal Theater Workshop is a unique academic class where students earn credit while fully preparing and performing an opera or musical within the course of a semester. Over the semester, students workshop the production, focusing on strong vocal technique, vocal health, and collaborative skills with fellow performers, administration, collaborative artists, and the public. Any student can audition and participate, regardless of major or program.
The program is entirely self-funded: ticket sales and advertising help finance future projects, including purchasing rights, costumes, music, props, and bringing in collaborative instrumentalists as needed. The instrumentalists performing in the orchestra pit are primarily current students, with guest professionals engaged only when necessary. The School of Music takes great pride in the hard work and talent that student musicians dedicate each semester to delivering outstanding performances for the Cleveland community.

Synopsis of "Little Shop of Horrors"
In this beloved horror-comedy rock musical, Seymour Krelborn, a meek floral assistant, discovers a strange and unusual plant he names Audrey II—after his coworker, Audrey. Seymour soon realizes the plant has a taste for human blood and flesh, and its appetite quickly grows out of control. As Audrey II helps Seymour rise to fame and fortune, Seymour is forced to make increasingly difficult decisions that spiral into chaos. The musical is packed with memorable tunes, over-the-top characters, dark humor, and an unforgettable finale as the plant's true intentions—world domination—are revealed.
