Join Fall Safe and G.E.W LLC for two days of hands-on Fall Protection Competent Person training in Portland. G.E.W LLC will donate all net profits from this class to the Central Washington University Safety Program Student Endowment Fund, supporting students preparing for careers in safety and health.

The work of a Competent Person happens where decisions matter: assessing a hazard before work begins, evaluating whether a system fits the job, identifying damaged or incompatible equipment, and taking action when conditions change. This course gives you opportunities to practice those decisions with equipment and realistic scenarios.

What you’ll learn

• How to recognize and assess fall hazards
• OSHA 1910 and 1926 fall protection requirements and ANSI Z359.2
• Competent Person responsibilities and the hierarchy of fall protection
• Fall arrest, restraint, positioning, and climbing systems
• Anchorage selection, connector compatibility, harnesses, SRLs, lanyards, and lifelines
• Fall clearance calculations and swing fall considerations
• Equipment inspection, documentation, and removal from service
• Rescue planning and response

You’ll take part in practical exercises covering hazard assessment, harness fitting, connector evaluation, clearance calculations, and inspection of harnesses, SRLs, lanyards, and anchors. The course concludes with a knowledge check and competency review.

This class is for safety professionals, supervisors, foremen, installers, maintenance personnel, project managers, and others responsible for workers at height. Enrollment is limited to 15 participants to allow time for hands-on practice and individual coaching.

Training equipment, a workbook, and reference materials are provided. You may bring your own harness for a personalized fit assessment.

Participants who successfully complete the course receive a Fall Protection Competent Person course certificate and documentation for employer training records. Employers remain responsible for assigning Competent Person duties and authority at their worksites.
