About this Event
You’re invited to a special guided hike by Sempervirens Fund, a local nonprofit that protects redwood forests in the Santa Cruz Mountains, preserves the plants and animals that make them home, and restores the balance of nature.
Together, we’ll explore this forested area rich with history. The Fall Creek Unit features the remnants of 19th-century lime kilns, old barrel mill structures, and serene, shaded creek sides. In the 19th century, redwood trees from this forest were harvested as fuel to power the kilns that were once operated. In the 1970s, the Fall Creek Unit became a protected part of the Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, allowing nature to slowly reclaim the landscape.
Today, Fall Creek Unit offers a rare blend of industrial past and thriving natural environments that highlight its unique story.
To join this group hike, all participants are asked to complete a short, mandatory liability waiver.
