Conference Description:
Why do some children grow up holding on to the Christian Faith of their youth while others do not? How does a rapidly shifting culture affect how we think about the challenges and opportunities for handing down the Faith? Recent comprehensive sociological studies of this question have reached conclusions that may surprise many and yet which point us back to principles and practices of family and church life which are deeply rooted in Scripture and have always been central to the Reformed tradition. This is a time that calls for a renewal and clarification of the irreplaceable role of parents and of the church community as a whole in the formation of the next generation in faith, hope, and love.
About Our Main Speaker:
Dr. Mark A. Garcia (PhD, Edinburgh University) is the founding President and Fellow in Scripture and Theology at Greystone Theological Institute and associate professor of systematic theology and the founding President and Fellow in Scripture and Theology at Greystone Theological Institute. He served as pastor at Immanuel Orthodox Presbyterian Church (Coraopolis, PA) from 2007–2021 and has held esteemed academic positions at Cambridge University and the University of East Anglia.
Dr. Garcia’s academic interests span across disciplines, with special focuses in theology on the doctrine of Christ and figural hermeneutics; theological anthropology, especially gender and marriage–divorce theory; and the theological interpretation of Leviticus. He is the author of Life in Christ: Union with Christ and Twofold Grace in Calvin’s Theology (Paternoster, 2008) and has published numerous articles and essays on a variety of theological topics. He is currently contracted to write a commentary on the book of Romans for Hodder & Stoughton and is working on books about the theology of gender, the order of reality, and the reasons for the incarnation of the Son.
We look forward to a day of enriching discussions and deep theological reflection. Please join us for this significant event as we explore how to faithfully pass down the Christian Faith to the next generation in an ever-changing world.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
