DSQO's bi-annual clothing swap (THE LARGEST FREE SWAP IN DALLAS) is back! Just in time to get your wardrobe ready for fall! Unlike other clothing swaps, our event is actually free, thanks to donations and community support! Seriously! Free admission, free clothes, and free styling tips from a local wardrobe expert!
How Does A Clothing Swap Work?
It's like a community garage sale but everything is free! Bring clean, gently used items to swap and find "new" pieces to take home! We'll have full length mirrors and private spaces for trying on clothes. Bring your own bag to take home your findings or purchase a cute DSQO tote bag (while this does cost some money, your dollars go straight back into the community!)
What Can I Bring to Swap?
We accept all clean and gently used clothing items except underwear. Shirts, jackets, pants, skirts, dresses, binders are all acceptable! We also welcome you to bring accessories like hats, purses, jewelry, belts, shoes, etc. Books, CDs, DVDs or physical media are also allowed!
How Can I Donate Clothes?
Bring your clean, used items to Apprentice Creative Space at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Our volunteers will help sort your items onto racks and tables. One bag of donations per person please! Trash bags are totally fine. Any clothes that aren't taken by the end of the event will be donated to a local charity.
Why Can't I Just Buy New Clothes?
You totally could do that instead. The purpose of clothing swaps is to provide affordable options for people who can't buy brand new items. There is also a ton of waste in the fashion industry. The U.S. alone generates millions of tons of textile waste ever year which all goes to landfills. Giving a perfectly good shirt or pair of jeans a second chance helps your wallet, helps your community, and helps our planet!
Can I Volunteer at This Event?
Absolutely! It takes a lot of hands to put this event together (again, this is the LARGEST free swap in Dallas!) Send an email to [email protected] to let us know you want to help out! Set up starts at 2 pm. Donation sorting starts at 3 pm. Cleanup/breakdown starts at 7 pm.
What is DSQO?
The Dallas Social Queer Organization (or DSQO, pronounced "disco") is a non-profit organization run entirely by LGBTQ+ volunteers. We host monthly social events, educational workshops, and support groups to combat loneliness and isolation and improve mental health outcomes in our community. Accessibility Info:
-Free parking lot next to the building, if that is full please park on the street where permitted and avoid blocking driveways
-There is a wheelchair accessible entrance on the parking lot side of the building (this will be labeled). Follow the signs to go down the long hallway to reach Apprentice Space
-Gender neutral bathrooms
-Masks and earplugs provided for anyone wanting them
