We define S.T.E.M. and integrated STEM education broadly, and thus STEM learning is relevant to most industries. STEM education starts early, there are many career pathways related to STEM, and our region has exciting initiatives to support these pathways.

We will share ways that educators and other stakeholders have leveraged the incredible strengths of those in this region to support teachers and students in STEM.

The Center of Excellence in STEM Education at ETSU oversees the Northeast TN STEM Innovation Hub.

A Focus on Finance for Engaging Elementary-Aged Students presented by Jackie Morgan, Outreach Senior Advisor, Federal Reserve Bank

Looking for ways to tie money and personal finance into engaging STEM content for your students? Then look no further! During this session, we will answer a variety of STEM-related money questions including: Which is bigger – a penny or a dime? How is our money like animals in nature? Why doesn’t a dollar bill dissolve when it goes through the washing machine? In addition to this content, you will discover free elementary-focused, ready-to-use resources for teaching financial literacy concepts – and, many of the resources have cross-curricular connections focusing on language arts, math, and social studies. Come ready for an engaging and fast-paced session that will get you ready to focus on finance beginning in elementary school.

Career Exploration in STEM – Free Resources for Middle School & High School presented by Jackie Morgan, Outreach Senior Advisor, Federal Reserve Bank

Transform how your students view their future with FREE, ready-to-use career exploration and employability resources. This session equips middle and high school teachers with free, ready‑to‑use college and career exploration and employability skills resources designed to ignite student engagement and connect learning to post-high school opportunities. Discover practical strategies and FREE resources that prepare students for their futures.

Financial Literacy Escape Room presented by Stacey Fisher, Professor at ETSU

Experience a hands-on financial literacy escape room while exploring creative ways to connect real-world financial concepts to middle school mathematics. Participants will consider how interactive challenges can strengthen problem-solving, collaboration, and meaningful application of math skills. This activity was created in collaboration with Dawn Rowe, Interim Director of the Center for Rural Education and Development.

AI in Education

Why Didn’t I Do This Sooner? presented by Annette True and Jessica Holloway

Explore how AI learns through Teachable Machine, then put AI to work creating an engaging, classroom-ready lesson. Leave with practical strategies and ideas that can save planning time and support student engagement.
