Fake Spirituality
About this Event
Fake Spirituality
We live in the age of gurus. Suddenly, you discover that your friend is a life coach and a spiritual teacher - and your high school buddy is a shaman. This makes sense. We look for meaning and need guidance, so it’s natural that spirituality is in high demand. At the same time, there is a huge growth of fake spirituality - involving intentional or unintentional deceit. Someone selling authenticity turns out to be a fraud. A group advertising a new way to connect to yourself becomes a hotspot for inflated egos. A course promising a spiritual journey is nothing more than AI slop. And the list continues. In this Philosophy Salon, we will look at the phenomenon of fake spirituality as something that's both old and new. We explore it openly and sincerely, and see if we can find some good ways, together, to sort out the real from fake.
