About this Event
"To define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves, and speak for ourselves."
On Saturday, December 27th—the second day of Kwanzaa—we celebrate the principle of Kujichagulia (Self-Determination).
In a political climate often defined by anxiety and uncertainty, how do we reclaim our narrative? How do we move from fear into a grounded, spiritual confidence that fuels our fight for freedom?
Join Rev. Robert Newells-Newton at Kinfolx Oakland for an honest, intergenerational panel discussion exploring these questions through the lens of his new book, Faith, Not Fear. Inspired by the powerful community gathering held this past June, this book and this event serve as a call to action—urging us to anchor ourselves in spiritual strength while doing the work of liberation.
The Conversation:
We are honored to welcome a panel of Oakland’s most potent voices to discuss what Kujichagulia looks like in practice:
- Dr. Valerie Miles-Tribble (Confirmed): Providing the womanist and ethical frameworks we need to sustain our movement.
- Chaney Turner (Invited): Speaking to the power of economic and social autonomy in building safe spaces for Black folks.
- Councilmember Carroll Fife (Invited): Discussing how we move from political anxiety to action through fearless organizing and the fight for housing as a human right.
Why You Should Attend:
- Engage: Be part of a raw, authentic dialogue about the intersection of faith, politics, and Black identity.
- Reflect: Explore the themes of Faith, Not Fear and how they apply to our collective future in Oakland.
- Connect: Enjoy coffee, tea, and fellowship with community members in the beautiful Kinfolx Living Room.
