Brotherhood of Elders Kujichagulia Kwanzaa Celebration 2025

Join us on the second day of Kwanzaa for a vibrant and joyous celebration of Kujichagulia (Koo-ji-cha-gu-lee-uh) which is a Swahili word that means self-determination! This family friendly event is a wonderful opportunity to embrace and uplift our rich African heritage. Reserve your free ticket today!

Location: OakStop Event Hall, 2323 Broadway, Oakland CA

The celebration will include a Bantaba African drum and dance performance, griot storytelling, the traditional lighting of the Kwanzaa candles, and a Karamu (community dinner). Guests of all ages will enjoy face-painting, balloon animals, and temporary skin art provided by crowd favorite, East Bay Face Painters!

Come dressed in your finest African attire (not required but encouraged) and be prepared to indulge in delicious and nutritious food preparded by Chef Sonia Porter.
