Watermill Sessions in association with HappyJustListening are proud to present an intimate evening of songwriters Faith Eliott and Staithe.Faith is a songwriter and visual artist. Born in Minneapolis, they moved to Scotland nearly two decades ago.
Through storytelling and world-building, they illustrate intuitive landscapes populated by hagfish, Pleistocene volcanoes, cursed memes, and late-Renaissance apocryphal monsters lurking in the aisles of Asda. Sonically, Eliott grounds themself in a stripped-back, lyric-driven songwriting approach that evolves through the recording process to incorporate orchestral elements—often contributed by frequent collaborator Robyn Dawson—along with electronic textures and found sounds.
Their latest album ‘Dryas’ was released on Lost Map Records on May 30th, 2025. It follows two previous releases, ‘Impossible Bodies’ (2019, OK Pal Records) and ‘Insects’ (2016, Song, by Toad Records), both of which received critical acclaim, including coverage from The List and The Scotsman, as well as national radio play on BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction, and 6Music.
"DRYAS IS A GORGEOUS, GENTLE, POIGNANT AND HOPEFUL FOLK POP FANTASIA" - THE SCOTSMAN
"A GORGEOUSLY DETAILED AND DELICATE RECORD" – THE SKINNY
“[ELIOTT] WILL SURELY BE CHAMPIONED FOR YEARS TO COME AS ONE OF THE FINEST LYRICISTS OF THEIR GENERATION”
– DROWNED IN SOUND
Staithe produces evocative, minimalist music that interweaves voice, classical guitar, viola, piano, and electronic textures. Bridie is best known as the singer and songwriter of the critically acclaimed folk band Bridie Jackson and The Arbour, while Nick is a classical viola and synth player with a background in both orchestral and contemporary music. Together, they create music that is both delicate and immersive, shaped by a shared love of storytelling through sound. Their live performances are intimate yet powerful, drawing audiences into a world of evocative melodies and atmospheric textures.
Staithe began as an informal collaboration during the 2020 lockdown and officially formed as a duo in 2023. Since then, they have been performing, self-recording, and composing commissioned works for a variety of creative projects. Their work often crosses disciplines, collaborating with film makers, performance artists and theatre and dance companies to create immersive soundscapes and emotive scores.
In May 2025, they released their highly anticipated self released debut album, ‘Flowers’ to critical acclaim. A deeply personal and confessional body of work, Flowers showcases Staithe’s distinctive fusion of genres, drawing from classical, folk, and minimalist electronica, whilst inviting listeners into their immersive sound world—one of honesty, melancholy, hope and quiet resilience.
Entirely self-produced and recorded at their home in Newcastle-upon-Tyne during the winter of 2024, the album embodies the experimental, DIY nature of this constantly evolving musical project.
‘…Their album is real stop-you-in-your- tracks stuff. It really casts a spell, gradually pulling you into its world by dint of some finely wrought melodies that are lifted by Jackson’s clear as a bell vocals’ - The Crack Magazine
‘ ...An invitation into a world where vulnerability and strength coalesce, where heartache becomes art, and where Staithe’s voice becomes the very thing that makes you feel alive—raw, aching, and irrevocably human. ...know that once you’ve heard Bridie’s voice, you’ll never be the same' - The Devil Has The Best Tuna Music Blog
‘...Vocals are crystal clear, very magnetic, soaring at times. You'll want to listen to this over and over again, just like I did’ - Shakk, BBC Introducing
