Fairy Tale Freakout Gallery Exhibition

Fairy Tales are a staple of childhood bedtime stories and children’s cartoons, but they go much deeper and can be much darker than modern media has shown us. The team at Oddball Art Labs would love to see your interpretations of these strange stories that have been passed down for generations.
We want to see you explore the fantastical tales that are shared and re-imagined time and time again, fairy folktales, nursery rhymes and literary classics across eras and cultures across the world. Everything from Mother Goose, 1001 Nights, Journey to the West, and even more modern additions like The Last Unicorn, it’s all fair game!
Come see what happens when the local art community thinks outside the box: Endearing strange tributes! Unexpected Mashups! Gritty reboots! The possibilities are endless!
This is an open call show challenging the Elgin and Chicagoland creative community to share their visions.
Submissions open until November 15, 2026
