HELLO FRIENDS! The Sign Up page for this years Fairbanks Holiday Food Drive is now open and ready for YOU! I would love to see you there! We are over two months away, that’s plenty of time to sign up your families, hockey team, UAF group, 4H club, fire department team, bank buddies, whoever you’ve got! We have lots of open spots for whatever time fits your schedule. Don't forget, if you see a shift that notes something like '4/6', meaning 4 of the 6 sign-up spots are taken, 2 are open, and you have 3 or 4 people to signup; sign up 2 of the names and bring everyone along! Extra volunteers are ALWAYS welcome! We will need volunteers at the doors for 8 hours each day in 2-hour shifts to help the Food Bank serve our local people at Thanksgiving, through the holiday season, and into the New Year. That's the time when donations to the Food Bank are very low & limited. The food bank is already low now, so get you people together and let’s make this a record breaking year!
Shoppers are greeted at the door by volunteers who will hand them a list of both holiday & year-round food needs. We simply ask that as they shop, please pick up atleast one item on the list, add it to your cart, pay for it with your things, then drop it off at our tables (look for the turkey & wagon cartoon image). The Food Bank will have staff picking up donations throughout the day and returning to the Food Bank to prepare for Thanksgiving boxes given out the following Wednesday and sorting for their daily needs.
Again, the Food Bank is already low. We will have this food drive and are encouraging other groups to hold food drives and/or make donations directly at the Fairbanks Community Food Bank or through their webpage whenever they can before Thanksgiving starting now. During the Food Drive, shoppers will also be able to use the Fred Meyer PickUp service to order food and they will bring it up to us. Great, huh? As the need continues to be great, I would like us to top our past Food Drive totals by 10% to make it 550 turkeys, 22,500 lbs of food, & $2,500.00 in monetary donations. Come on, Interior Alaska; LET’S DO THIS!
Volunteer shifts are for two hours and you are very welcome to sign up for more.
If you would like to make a donation directly to the Food Bank in support of our drive, you can go to 725 26th Avenue, drop your donation off and tell them it's for the Fairbanks Holiday Food Drive. Their staff will take care of the rest.
