FREE Fair Housing Training: Rights for LGBTQIA2S+ Renters
This in-person event will discuss rights for renters, but is specifically geared towards the LGBTQIA2S+ community and aims to provide insights into understanding and exercising fair housing rights. Whether you're new to fair housing or already familiar with the topic, this training will cover critical aspects of housing discrimination and protections, and strategies to navigate discriminatory rental barriers in North Dakota.
When: Thursday, January 9, 2025 at 5:30 pm (CDT).
Where: Grand Forks Public Library, 2110 Library Circle, Grand Forks, ND 58201 .
During this interactive session, learn about shared experiences, discuss best practices, and shed light on the importance of fair housing:
During this interactive session, you will:
- Understand Fair Housing after the Bostock Decision: Learn about the implications of the landmark Bostock v. Clayton County decision and how it impacts housing rights for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals.
- Examine specific examples of discrimination: Discuss real-life scenarios of housing discrimination faced by the LGBTQIA2S+ community, including challenges related to gender identity and sexual orientation.
- Explore fair housing laws and protections: Understand your rights under federal and state fair housing laws and how these protections apply to LGBTQIA2S+ renters.
- Learn about federal and North Dakota state-protected classes: Understand how you are protected against housing discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, familial status, disability, receipt of public assistance, marital status, age over 40, status as a survivor/victim of domestic violence in certain circumstances.
- Filing a Fair Housing Complaint: Learn how to exercise your civil right to file a fair housing complaint if you are a victim of housing discrimination.

- Activists, community leaders, social workers, counselors, and advocates working toward equality and justice in housing.

This event is open to all, and it provides an excellent opportunity to learn, discuss, and advocate for fair housing in the LGBTQIA2S+ community.

We are pleased to offer certificates of attendance and ND and MN social work CEUS for those who attend our webinars. Our policy is as follows:
- Attendees must attend the entirety of the training
- Attendees must sign in with their first and last name they would like printed on their certificate on the sign in sheet provided
- Attendees must complete the survey at the end provided at the training
- Certificates will be issued within two weeks of the training
