Abandoned Bended City marks Fahrettin Örenli’s most comprehensive solo exhibition in Istanbul in over a decade — a homecoming moment for the artist whose practice has taken him across Amsterdam Havana Seoul Taipei and beyond.
The exhibition unfolds across three floors and the garden of Arkkültür transforming the historic villa into a living environment of images sounds and encounters. At its center is the poetic tale of a fish growing in the city’s sewers slowly deforming the urban landscape — an allegory that connects Havana Amsterdam and Istanbul as cities bound by unresolved histories fragile economies and shared illusions.
Örenli’s work spans video installations sound collages drawings poetry and site-specific interventions. His practice — described as “organic conceptual” — combines rigorous research with layered storytelling to map the intersections of nature capital migration and memory. Projects such as Conspiracy Wall > ANARTIST Virtual Distance and Money Without Nationality reveal his long-standing interest in how political social and economic structures shape our contemporary condition.
Abandoned Bended City is not a static display but a contemporary salon: a space for spontaneous performances collective reflection and interdisciplinary dialogue. It invites visitors not only to look but to inhabit the exhibition and take part in its shifting constellations of thought art and conversation.
