Despite being self-managed and unsigned, Crywank have become one of the UK’s most renowned anti-folk acts. Crywank return with their “sad-but-fun” live show to F2 on Wednesday, January 21.

Self-releasing eight albums in sixteen years and touring relentlessly around the world, they have built a reputation for scrappy lo-fi recordings and chaotic, genre-bending live shows. Crywank was formed by songwriter Jay Clayton in 2009, on the same day they first picked up a guitar. Even though they did not yet know how to play or record their early music properly, it gained far more attention online than expected and soon became a serious musical endeavour. Eventually joined by percussionist Dan Watson (Bombstrap, Denim & Leather, ex-Gnod) and bass player Jules Noel (Guard Petal, ex-Chastity), Crywank moved from simple outsider-folk to more complex and bizarre compositions, while maintaining a commitment to exploring sadness in an often blunt and humorous way.
“We are going on a live hiatus for a few years for both family reasons and also to work on recording new music. Prague is one of our favourite cities to visit and perform in, and we are so excited to play some of our songs one last time in Prague before we retire them from our live set,” invites Crywank. As a special guest for the night, Dominik Prok steps in.
