About this Event
Imagine a future where cities are cool, green, and resilient against the challenges of climate change. How can we make that vision a reality? It starts with understanding the power of trees. Join us for an exciting series of talks where cutting-edge science meets real-world action, and discover how you can be part of creating the cities of tomorrow.
Speakers and Topics:
Talk 1: The Canopy Plan by Yasmina Loozen, ISSeP

How can trees change the future of our cities? The city of Liège is leading the way with its innovative Canopy Plan, launched to combat urban heat islands by planting thousands of trees. Yasmina Loozen will take you behind the scenes of this project, showing how remote sensing and geospatial technology are used to identify the best spots for new trees and how data helps prioritize neighborhoods that need it the most. With over 6,000 trees already planted, this initiative is a powerful example of how science, technology, and community efforts can come together to make a real difference. Discover how you can be part of the movement to green our cities.

Talk 2: City Trees: Essential for Climate-Proofing Our Cities by Hans Verbeeck, Ghent University (Q-Forest Lab)
Ever wondered how trees can help save the planet? Professor Hans Verbeeck will reveal how urban trees are not just beautiful—they're vital to our fight against climate change. Learn how his team at Ghent University uses cutting-edge technology like 3D laser scans to study trees from the ground, air, and space. These scans help simulate how trees impact the urban climate, offering new ways to design cities that are cooler, greener, and more sustainable. This talk will inspire you to see trees as more than just part of the landscape—they’re key players in building a better future.

Moderated by Jacotte Brokken, Renowned Weather Woman
We’re thrilled to have Jacotte Brokken, a familiar face in weather forecasting, as our moderator for the evening. With her passion for climate science and ability to make complex topics accessible, Jacotte will guide the conversation, ensuring an engaging and informative experience for all attendees. Her unique insights and dynamic presence will add an extra layer of energy and expertise to the discussion.
