Extremis is a 24-minute documentary and was nominated for an Academy Award and two Emmys in 2017. The film follows Dr. Jessica Zitter and her team in the intensive care unit of a public hospital in Oakland, California. The extraordinary access granted in this film offers a uniquely intimate look at the intersection of science, faith, and humanity.

Dr. Jessica Zitter will be our Keynote Speaker at the November 2025 Palliative Care Education Week. Her film Extremis witnesses the wrenching emotions that accompany end-of-life decisions as doctors, patients and families in a hospital ICU face harrowing choices.
