Join us for a fun, family-friendly afternoon on the Esplanade—learn simple ways to stay cool, meet local services, and enjoy stalls, kids’ activities and live music. 🌴🌡️🎶 
Kick-off: Sweltering Cities “Cool Walk”:
Take a short, guided community walk where we’ll explore our neighbourhood together—spotting “hot spots” (exposed bus stops, heat-trapping surfaces) and “cool spots” (shade trees, breezes, water, good design). We’ll turn what we see into practical ideas for cooler streets and fairer access to shade, water and seating. It’s relaxed, inclusive and designed for all ages. 🚶♀️🧢💧 
Community Gathering (on the lawn):
- Presentations & stalls: Red Cross (preparedness & mental wellbeing), Doctors for the Environment Australia (heat & your health), CAFNEC (heat & climate), Tree Action Group – Save Our Shade (shade-tree protection), Centacare FNQ (resources for multicultural communities).
- Plus stalls, kids’ activities and live music. 🎪👧🏽🎸 
What to bring: A friend, hat, water bottle and your best ideas for a cooler Cairns. See you there! 🙌
This Cairns event is part of Australia’s Extreme Heat Awareness Day—a national day launched by Sweltering Cities with Australian Red Cross, which in 2025 saw events in almost every state and territory and dozens of organisations taking part.
