Elevate your independent painting practice in a relaxed, focused, and supportive environment. Designed for artists of all levels—this ongoing studio class offers personalized guidance tailored to your specific project goals.

With a strict cap of 10 students per session, you will receive dedicated one-on-one critique, technical troubleshooting, and individualized instruction from a professional instructor. This class provides the support needed to advance your skills at your own pace.

• Cost: $25 per class
• Capacity: Strictly limited to 10 students for maximum instructor feedback
• Medium: Mixed Media / Acrylic
• Supplies: Students bring their own preferred acrylic paints, brushes, and surfaces, along with any visual references.

Class Description--Expressive Painting: Color, Movement & Energy:

Loosen up and let color take the lead! This class is all about using bold hues, dynamic brushstrokes, and expressive techniques to bring movement and emotion to your paintings. Whether you work in oil or acrylic, you’ll explore ways to break free from rigid detail and create artwork that feels alive and full of energy. Browse our shelf of still life objects or bring a reference photo to the first class as a starting point—we’ll use it as inspiration rather than a rulebook. Through guidance and personal exploration, you’ll experiment with layering, texture, and mark-making to develop a more expressive, intuitive approach to painting. Perfect for all skill levels, this class encourages creative freedom, playful exploration, and fearless color choices.

Expressive Painting Suggested Supply List:

The following is a suggested supply list to help you get started. Please don’t feel as though you need to purchase everything right away. For the first class, some paints and a canvas are sufficient. We do have extra supplies in the studio, however you may want to acquire the following as you continue your painting journey…

· Acrylic paints (any brand)

· Matte, satin or gloss medium (depending on preference)

· Canvas of any size (If you are unsure about what size, 11x 14 or 16x20” is a good place to start—Look for value packs which are a great way to start

· Paintbrushes of various sizes: (at least one flat wash brush, one medium round and one small round brush with a good point for detail work

· Painting palette (wax coated paper plates work as well)

· 4H or other Hard Pencil for sketching., and a good kneadable or white eraser for sketching

· Extra paper towels, rags/container for washing brushes

Optional:

· Extra canvas or paper for sketching/experimenting

· Gloss or satin medium varnish (for glazing paintings and adding collage elements)

· Any other fun paint colors/mediums/materials you’d like to try with painting (charcoal, paint markers, gold leaf, collage elements etc.)

· Modeling paste/Impasto medium and palette knives (for thick/impasto painting)

Registration: You may sign up for individual classes through Eventbright or receive a discount if you sign up for 4 classes at a time by emailing [email protected] with your name and phone number (in case of cancellation, etc.) and sending payment though Venmo @NashuaArtNook ($100 for 4 classes).
