Exploring traditions of psychedelic use in Ireland and Canada (morning)

Manchán Magan will deliver a 45-minute version of his celebrated 'Rewilding the Mind' talk. Kelly Daniels will then speak about Plains Cree creation stories in the first half of this research day exploring traditions of psychedelic use in Ireland and Canada from the perspectives of land, language and post-colonial cultural revival.

Manchán Magan has written books on his travels in Africa, India and South America. He writes occasionally for The Irish Times, and presents the Almanac of Ireland podcast for RTÉ. He has made dozens of documentaries on issues of world culture for TG4, RTÉ, & Travel Channel. His books include Thirty-Two Words For Field, Listen to the Land Speak, Tree Dogs, Banshee Fingers and Other Words For Nature, and Wolf-Men and Water Hounds. Kelly Daniels is a fluent Plains Cree speaker from Sturgeon Lake First Nation in Saskatchewan. Kelly is a Native American Church roadman and has practised and prayed with many nations in Canada, US, and Mexico. He was the Native American Church of Canada President for almost two decades and is a strong advocate for and promoter of ceremonial teachings. Kelly was brought up in and around ceremonies and is continuing those teachings by ensuring those teachings are passed down for future generations. He has presented at various universities in Canada and at Toluca. Kelly Daniels has won Aboriginal People Choice Music Awards and been nominated for several others.
