Exploring the Birds of the Wetlands

Join Teresa & Miles Tuffli (I'm Birding Right Now) for a guided birding walk on June 2, 2024 (Sunday) @ 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM at Ellis Creek Water Recyling Facility in Petaluma, California. PLEASE NOTE: SPECIFIC MEETING LOCATION DETAILS BELOW.

No binoculars? No problem! We can provide quality binoculars courtesy of Vortex Optics if you'd like to borrow a pair. Beginners are encouraged -- we want to help you get out and appreciate the bird world. Don't be shy if you've never birded before -- that's what we're here for! (All experience levels are welcome though.)

Let's get outdoors and connect with nature via the birds! Wetlands provide an incredibly bird-rich habitat with a high diversity of species. By early June, we may have the opportunity to observe some young birds born this year... let's explore who we might find!

We’ll slowly meander along the unpaved but mostly flat trails around the ponds of Ellis Creek Water Recycling Facility. We'll look at, listen to, and identify a variety of songbirds, raptors, water-loving species, and anything else that pops up. As we walk and stop frequently to enjoy the birds we encounter, we’ll discuss a variety of topics, such as: techniques for locating birds, what sorts of details to notice when observing a bird, species identification, bird vocalizations, and bird behavior and habitats.

Specific Meeting Location: Although the official address for Ellis Creek Water Recycling Facility is 3890 Cypress Drive, Petaluma, CA 94954, that will take you slightly farther than our exact meeting location. Just as you enter the gates to the Ellis Creek Facility off Cypress Drive, you will immediately turn left into a large, long parking lot. There is a bathroom building immediately to your left -- we will meet near here. Here is an exact pindrop of where we will meet:

Cost: $25/person. However, we don't want anyone to miss out on the joy of birding due to disposable income concerns, so please contact us directly ([email protected]) if the cost is an issue for you.

Accessibility Information: Though we’ll be walking slowly, for those with mobility issues, please be aware that sections of the trail have some slight incline/decline. The trails are not paved, but are of compacted gravel.

Cancellation/Refunds: Cancellations before 48 hours of the event start-time will receive a refund for the ticket price ($25/person). Eventbrite fees are non-refundable.

Weather: This walk will proceed in the event of light rain. We will cancel the event if there is considerable rain in the forecast, and payments will be refunded.
