Exploring "The Merchant of Venice" with Dr. Gretchen Minton and Riley O’Toole
At its core, this is a story about justice, mercy, and the complicated nature of human prejudice. We encounter a vibrant world of commerce and romance, but beneath its wit lies a society wrestling with questions of fairness, belonging, and the cost of intolerance. As fortunes rise and fall and loyalties are tested, the characters are forced to confront what it truly means to exercise mercy, and the complicated nature of justice without compassion.
Dr. Gretchen Minton shares her expertise and gives insight into the deeper themes in the play ahead of opening night at the MSU Duck Pond on June 10th.
Additionally, Riley O'Toole will speak to what it means to adapt a play for the unique nature of a Montana Shakespeare in the Parks tour.
