Exploring a pattern block
Location: Lytham YMCA, Mythop Road, Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, FY8 4HB
Cost: £36 includes any relevant handouts & templates
What you’ll need to provide: a base bodice block, tracing paper, ruler/curve set & Fabric for toiling or the real deal if your brave enough!
What you will learn & make:
How to adapt a patterns;
adding bodice darts
Changing the neckline; lowering or V neck
Drafting a facing
Changing shape, length & style of sleeve or sleeveless
Add length to adapt a top into a shift dress, calculate gathered skirt panel or tiers
add inseam pockets
We will start with some simple sketching & inspirational images- think the product images or something similar (bringing these from magazines/catalogs/internet in encouraged but not essential) to determine the style of the design(s) you'd like to create. All working from your base ‘block’- so you can explore the potential your pattern has.
*your base bodice should be something youve made before; it could be as simple as a sweatshirt or tshirt, TATB indigo, nell or a simple top pattern you think has potential to be so much more!
You will then draft out your new pattern pieces, note down order of sequences of constructing your new self drafted pattern & make it up in toile or cheap fabric (advised).
The timings of this workshop should enable you to complete your pattern adjustments, make new pattern pieces & sew up a garment within the session but each person will work at a different pace so please be aware you may have tasks to complete after the session finishes.
Who is this suitable for: Over 16's- Confident beginner- This workshop requires you to have existing dressmaking knowledge so that you can build your skills & expand the creative potential of making your own clothes.
