Join dedicated volunteers for an informative and FUN hike at Government Canyon SNAKnowledgeable guides discuss the flora, fauna, natural and cultural history of Government Canyon State Natural Area. Hike length and interpretive topic(s) will vary depending on the group. Distance will be between 2 to 5 miles over easy to moderate terrain.
Hike is open to ages 10 and older. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. No pets please.
This is a public program intended for individuals or families. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at [email protected] to schedule at a different time.
While registration is NOT required for this hike, all Natural Area entry fees apply. To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass .
This hike is weather dependent and subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by going to the GCSNA twitter feed or the Government Canyon State Natural Area Facebook page.
Meet at the Rock Garden beside the Visitor Center. Open to the first 15 who check in at the Rock Garden between 7:30 and 7:45 AM. The hike starts promptly at 8:00 AM.
Dress for hiking outdoors. Comfortable shoes/boots, sunscreen, bug spray and a hat recommended. Wear layers that can be added or removed as weather conditions change. Bring at least 2 liters of water per person and snacks.
