Nestled in the scenic West Marin landscape near Tomales Bay, Arborica is more than just a lumber yard; it’s a unique mill and showroom renowned among craftsmen and designers.
Founded by Evan Shively, a former chef and Harvard graduate, Arborica specializes in salvaged wood. Shively’s journey from the kitchen to woodwork was unexpected, driven by his frustration in finding suitable wood for his projects. This led him to create a business focused on sourcing and salvaging wood. His work is featured in the new Center for Architecture + Design with a beautiful fallen elm table centrally placed in Système D, the Center's cafe.
This one-of-a-kind field trip to Arborica offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of wood salvage and the artistry behind it. Shively’s respect for his materials and craft is clear, reflecting his belief in minimizing preconceptions and appreciating the true nature of things.
