Explorathon: Music for a Medieval Roman
Schedule
Sun Sep 22 2024 at 11:00 am to 12:30 pm
UTC+01:00Location
Advanced Research Centre (ARC), University of Glasgow | Glasgow, SC
About this Event
The Roman de Silence is one of the most intriguing works of literature of the Middle Ages: gravitating around Silence, a noble girl raised as a boy, it has invited opposing interpretations and has been defined as both subversive and conservative, as both queer and heteronormative. Through group singing, this workshop will lead participants through various repertoires from 12th and 13th-century England and France contemporary with the Roman de Silence. We will explore how these can help us illuminate the tensions inherent in the literary work.
Recommended for age 16+.
No knowledge of medieval music or music notation is required.
Meet at the ARC's reception at least five minutes before the event, which will take place in Studio 2.
