Take part in playful, experimental exercises that will help you to find out about materials and enjoy drawing as a process in itself.
About this Event

This course invites students to explore a wide range of materials and approaches to drawing. We work expressively and playfully with different drawing tools including sticks, inks, felt pens, wire, collage, pencils, charcoal and rubbers. Working from observation we use different strategies that focus on training the eyes to see in new ways. Through different exercises we consider composition, line, tone, proportion, perspective and colour. We look at artists both current and historic for inspiration. For two sessions we will go out of the studio and draw on location, either indoors or outdoor depending on the weather.

Suitable for all levels including beginners.

All materials are provided for sessions that take place in the studio. Students will need sketchbooks and some portable drawing materials when we go out and draw on location. Advice will be given on what to buy at the start of the course.

Student comment about the tutor: ‘It’s a wonderful class, it has inspired me to start doing my art work at home again. Rachel is an inspiring teacher. We’ve explored so many different techniques, some new to me. I like it that it can be challenging (in a positive way) and that Rachel introduces artists to illustrate the sessions. She also encourages the students to look at each other’s work and to discuss our approaches and feelings. I look forward to being in the studio!’
