About New Toronto: "The story of New Toronto begins in the late 1800s when, with the expansion of the Grand Trunk Railway and the emergence of industrial opportunities, the area witnessed a surge in development. In 1906, the Toronto Industrial Exhibition, also known as the CNE, prompted the creation of a new subdivision (New Toronto) to accommodate the influx of workers and residents. The 1920s brought a period of prosperity and growth to New Toronto. The burgeoning industries and the completion of the Lakeshore Road Bridge connected the community to the rest of the city. This era saw the construction of charming homes that still line the streets today, showcasing a mix of architectural styles from Colonial Revival to Arts and Crafts. The allure of Lake Ontario has always been a defining feature of New Toronto. In the early 20th century, the community became a popular lakeside retreat for Torontonians seeking respite from the urban hustle. Beginning in front of the Toronto Public Library - New Toronto (110 Eleventh Street, Toronto, ON  M8V 3G5), the interactive tour will be hosted by your guide Alex Rășcanu. The tour will focus on New Toronto's history. The historical tour will conclude at a nearby coffee shop.

WHEN

Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 10:00am. The tour will last approximately 90 minutes.

The tour will start in front of the Toronto Public Library - New Toronto (110 Eleventh Street, Toronto, ON  M8V 3G5).

WHERE IT ENDS

This tour will end at a nearby coffee shop, where you can order coffee/tea/brunch and spend some more time speaking and connecting with fellow historical tour participants.
