About this Event
Experience the Science of Breath: A Nervous System Reset with Dasha
📍 Symmetrix Yaletown Studio — 1059 Cambie Street
Join us for a practical, evidence-informed exploration of breath and its impact on the nervous system. In this in-person workshop, Dasha will guide you through a series of breathing techniques grounded in the science of respiratory physiology and somatic awareness. These techniques support downregulation of the sympathetic nervous system, enhance interoception (internal body awareness), and may contribute to reduced pain perception and improved stress resilience.
This session is ideal for anyone curious about using breath as a tool for physical and mental regulation—no prior experience needed. Whether you’re a clinician, athlete, or simply seeking tools to better manage stress or discomfort, this session offers accessible, research-backed practices for everyday use.
🧠What to Expect:
1) A grounding breath exercise to transition into a calm, receptive state
2) A guided active breathwork session to stimulate vagal tone and shift autonomic balance
3)A relaxation-based body scan to reinforce parasympathetic activity
4) A brief group reflection to integrate your experience
🧺 What to Bring:
• A yoga mat (if available — studio mats are limited)
• A blanket and pillows/meditation cushion for comfort while lying down
Breathwork and deep relaxation can sometimes lower core body temperature, so dressing in layers and bringing a blanket is recommended.
🎙️ Meet Your Facilitator:
As a kinesiologist, Dasha brings a deep interest in the intersection of breath, movement, and nervous system regulation. Learn more about her approach and experience in this short video.
🔬 Why Breathwork?
Breath is one of the few autonomic processes we can consciously regulate. Research shows that intentional breathing can shift brainwave states, reduce cortisol, modulate heart rate variability (HRV), and improve emotional regulation. This workshop provides a practical introduction to these principles, applied in a structured and supportive environment.
Spaces are limited — reserve your spot now to explore the power of your breath as a tool for nervous system balance and pain modulation.
Dasha, is the Clinical Director and co-owner of Symmetrix Exercise & Rehab. She brings 12 years of clinical, sport and gym experience to her clients and team. Dasha’s expertise is comprehensive, from active rehabilitation and personal training in the gym to aquatic therapy in the pool to ergonomics for workplaces. She has experience working with athletes with lacrosse and hockey teams, chronic pain clients, cardiac rehabilitation clients and everyone in-between. She has won several awards for her work including Vancouver’s Top Kinesiology Studio for 2021 and 2022 and Kinesiologist of the Year for 2021 (Canadian Kinesiology Alliance). Over the years, she noticed that for some reason some of her most complex chronic pain clients just weren't getting better, to solve this her practice has evolved over the years to include more breathing assessment, breath-work, meditation and posture/breathing awareness.
One important feature of Dasha’s clinical style is her mind-body approach to the human body. She helps her clients understand how physical and mental/emotions aspects of rehabilitation and training are linked. Motivation, building healthy habits, goal setting, and relaxation/restoration are just as important as showing up for regular movement sessions. She is passionate about helping people improve their function, movement and strength. Dasha loves to see others achieve their goals and deeply cares about her clients’ success. She has a passion for growing and nurturing her community and she likes to take on new challenges, and learn new things.
As an outdoor enthusiast Dasha is regularly doing trips to the mountains. She loves backcountry skiing, multi-day biking/hiking, and rock climbing. She takes her outdoor activities seriously: she once set out on a two day hike over the Howe Sound Crest Trail to arrive at her friends’ wedding in Porteau Cove, and has cycled from Vancouver to Baja Sur, Mexico. She’s also incredibly creative at home; she ferments, cans and preserves food like tomatoes and kombucha, and loves to craft and create with her hands. She is always finding ways to eat healthier and more nutritious whole foods to fuel her active lifestyle.
