About this Event

Feel confident exploring Vancouver during FIFA 2026. Whether you're a local or visiting to catch matches, this self-defense class is your practical guide to staying safe while you enjoy the tournament.

Join us Friday nights during June and July for an empowering workshop designed specifically for women. No martial arts experience needed, just bring yourself and a willingness to learn. You'll walk away with practical skills, local safety insights, and the confidence to navigate your city with ease.

Perfect for: Solo travelers, women visiting Canada, local women looking to strengthen their safety skills, groups of friends, and anyone new to Vancouver during the tournament.

What You'll Learn
  • Real-world defense tactics based on common scenarios that travelers and locals face
  • Situational awareness — how to read your environment and trust your instincts
  • Assertive communication — when and how to set boundaries with confidence
  • Physical techniques — Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu-based self-defense that prioritizes escape, de-escalation, and staying safe.
  • Local safety tips — advice from a Vancouver-based instructor on staying safe in the city
  • Mindset & movement — practices to build confidence on and off the field
  • The Empowerment Framework: Think. Yell. Run. Fight. Tell.

Each class is stand-alone—join anytime, no prior experience needed. Classes follow a 10-week cycle, so you'll develop real reflexes if you stay for multiple sessions.

FAQs

Q: I'm traveling solo. Is this safe/comfortable?
A: Absolutely—this class is designed for solo travelers. You'll be in a welcoming, women-centered space with experienced instructors. Many attendees come alone.

Q: I've never done martial arts. Can I still come?
A: Yes! This is self-defense, not martial arts. We teach practical skills and mindset. Beginners learn just as much as experienced people.

Q: What if I'm sore from traveling or jet-lagged?
A: The class adapts to your energy level. You control the intensity. It's as much about mindset and awareness as physical technique.

Q: Can I come multiple times during my stay?
A: Yes, and we encourage it! Each class builds on the last. If you're in Vancouver for the tournament, you can attend as many Fridays as your schedule allows.

Q: What should I bring?
A: Comfortable clothes you can move in, water, and an open mind. We provide everything else, including snacks!
