What exactly is Equine-Assisted Learning? Why horses? And what can they possibly teach us about ourselves?

KNOWLEDGE — Whoa & Safety is the foundation of every Root & Rein Equine-Assisted Learning experience.
Before we ask anything of our horses, we first need to understand their language. During this 90-minute experience, you'll learn how horses communicate, begin reading their body language, and become more aware of how your own presence, boundaries and communication affect their response.
Safety is the #1 priority, for both our humans and our horses because we all want to feel safe, right?
But this is much more than a horse-safety class.
You'll also begin experiencing Equine-Assisted Learning firsthand and discover why horses can be such incredible teachers when it comes to communication, awareness, boundaries, trust, confidence, leadership and connection.
During your experience, you'll:
- Learn how horses communicate and what their body language can tell us
- Learn how to safely and respectfully interact with our horse teachers
- Explore how horses respond to our presence, communication and boundaries
- Participate in your first ground-based EAL experiences
- Discover why horses are such unique partners in learning
- Learn about the different Root & Rein experiences available after orientation
No riding is involved, and absolutely no horse experience is necessary.
Your first step, or the beginning of a bigger experience
KNOWLEDGE - Whoa & Safety is offered as a stand-alone 90-minute orientation and provides the foundation needed to continue into other Root & Rein programs.
Planning a Half-Day, Full-Day or Retreat Experience? You do not need to attend a separate orientation first. KNOWLEDGE - Whoa & Safety is built into those experiences as the first foundational lesson of your day.

Small groups allow everyone time to participate, observe, ask questions and experience learning alongside the horses.
