Experience Contemporary 2026 - A Wrench in the Gears
August 22 from 6-9 PM
At the Casselberry Arts Center
Every day we interact with different systems, natural and artificial. They are a necessary part of our life that provides us with a sense of security, efficiency, stability, and predictability. We rely on them for everything from technology, communication, movement, to knowledge and understanding. They are so ubiquitous that we even have systems to organize our systems. These five Florida artists disrupt some of those tried-and-true systems by unveiling unreliability and pushing toward instability in order to subvert our preconceived notions in search of something new, a different understanding.
Each artist’s work reflects a unique approach to their practice along with evidence of the artists pushing against systems related to technology, photography, craft, ownership, organization, language, and communication. Spanning across sculpture, painting, photography, ceramics, and textiles, their work pulls the viewer in close, then creates tension, a door through which the viewer has a chance to see something new.
Presented by Casselberry Arts, the annual Experience Contemporary 2026 exhibition, A Wrench in the Gears, features five Florida artists: Justin Quaid Grubb, Cynthia Mason, Noelle Mason, Hilary White, and Matthew Wicks.
Their work will be on display at the Casselberry Arts Center from August 22 through November 13.
