Do you have a fish, reptile, bird, small mammal, or exotic plant that you’re no longer able to care for?
Don’t release it into the wild—surrender it safely.
Releasing exotic pets may seem like the right thing to do, but it can be harmful to both the animal and the environment. This event provides a safe, responsible, and judgment-free alternative for pet owners who can no longer care for their animals.
Held during National Invasive Species Awareness Week, this event highlights the critical role that responsible pet surrender plays in preventing the spread of invasive species and protecting Wisconsin’s native habitats.
All surrendered pets will be available to adopt after a brief quarantine and evaluation period. There will be no same day adoptions.
✅ Accepted at this event:
• Fish and aquatic invertebrates
• Reptiles and amphibians
• Pet birds and small mammals
• Aquatic and terrestrial plants
📦 Animals must arrive in secure, waterproof, escape-proof containers that can be left with event staff.
🚫 Not Accepted:
• Dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, pigs, and chickens
• Native Wisconsin wildlife taken from the wild
• Mammals, birds, or reptiles from outside Wisconsin without a valid Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI)
