In 1984, Catherine Fuller was murdered in an alley near the intersection of 8th and H streets northeast in DC. Seventeen young Black Washingtonians were arrested for the crime, setting a record for the most people ever arrested for a non-conspiracy M**der in US history.
What followed was a police investigation and trial rife with questionable conduct. Similar to the Central Park Five case, false confessions were coerced out of multiple defendants, all of whom later recanted their statements. The prosecutor hid crucial evidence from the defense lawyers during the trial. Eight young men were sentenced to life in Pr*son despite there being no physical evidence to connect them to the crime.
Now, 40 years later, the six surviving men who received life sentences are seeking a final attempt at justice by applying for a presidential pardon.
The documentary series Exoneration: 8th and H will show an honest portrayal of what it's like to experience - and seek redemption from - a wrongful conviction in the United States.
Because we've yet to receive funding from a major backer, we are seeking the support of our broader networks. These crucial contributions will allow us to make sure we don't miss key filming days while we wait to partner with a production company and/or streaming platform.
