Liv Enqvist is a Northern Rivers artist based in Byron Bay, who explores themes of interconnectedness through her multi-media practice. Combining sculpture, video, and meditative hand embroidery, Liv creates works that bridge the inner and outer worlds. Her materials, collected from across the globe, speak to the shared human experience of connection and her art often leaves the studio, inviting natural elements to act as co-creators, further emphasising the symbiotic relationship between humanity and nature.
In her new exhibition she delves into 'String Theory', the scientific concept which suggests that all particles are connected by vibrating strings, creating an invisible web that unites the universe. This idea parallels the structure of small communities, where individuals are bound together through shared rhythms of giving and receiving, light and dark, day and night. Like particles, people are intrinsically connected, forming networks that sustain and define them.
Textiles beautifully symbolise these connections, woven from threads that span cultures and geographies, holding stories of intimacy and identity. From the silk weavers of Lyon to vintage fabrics from Stockholm, they represent a global network of touch and craft, accompanying us from birth to death.
Liv’s practice, influenced by her background in art, design, and global studies, celebrates the threads that bind us to each other and to the world around us. It invites reflection on the universal ties – whether through physics, community, or textiles – that remind us of our place in a vast, interconnected whole. She holds a BA in Languages and Visual Culture from Stockholm University and studied set design in Rome, Japanese in Tokyo and Design at Beckman College of Art in Sweden. She also worked as an art director and stylist on photoshoots in London.
Liv exhibits her work both in Australia, UK and Europe and collaborate with other creatives and brands regularly.
