About the Exhibition
Paper Stories brings together two Johannesburg-based artists whose distinct practices converge through the versatile medium of paper.
Nicola Bouwer presents Lift Me Up, a series of analogue collages that reflect on flight, longing, and transcendence. Through delicate cut-and-paste compositions, her work captures the fragile balance between aspiration and surrender.
Dustin August explores the themes of hard and soft through paper layering, transparency, and printmaking. His works centre the queer body, highlighting both its visibility and vulnerability, while celebrating multiplicity and presence.
Together, their works invite audiences into layered narratives—fragmented, bold, poetic, and profoundly human.
