MANMADE By Jaikira Grundy (Community Space)

“Manmade” examines how masculinity is constructed, performed and reinforced within contemporary culture. Centring on car culture, the exhibition frames vehicles as extensions of identity, power and control. Through photography, video and textile, it explores how risk-taking, dominance and endurance are celebrated as markers of “natural” manliness.

Denim operates as both material and metaphor, evoking labour, durability and inherited ideals. Like the fabric, these expectations are worn, passed down and internalised, shaping how men are taught to present themselves.

Set against the current Australian social climate, “Manmade” invites reflection on the cultural forces that shape male behaviour. Rather than condemning, the work asks what defines masculinity today and what psychological and social consequences emerge when it is built on performance, pressure and restraint.

Portraits by Paris Gregory (Local Space)

Using mediums such as soft pastels and charcoal, I create realistic portraits of people and animals. I am a 21 year old self taught artist, based in Stanley, Tasmania.

When I’m not working on commissions, I’m donating vouchers to animal shelters for them to raffle off to raise funds for their work. This exhibition includes some works I’ve done of pets that have been rescued by shelters, as well as portraits of some familiar faces.
