An opening reception for A Love Letter to Italy will be held Wednesday, July 1 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Enjoy the exhibit and light refreshments.
“A Love Letter to Italy: Celebrating Our Italian-American Heritage” explores the idea that memory itself can transform objects into art.
This exhibition invites both artists and members of the Italian-American community to contribute, welcoming personal items such as letters, drawings, photographs, and family mementos alongside traditional artwork.
These items are imbued with and valued for the memories and meanings they carry. A doodle on a receipt, a saved letter, or a lipstick mark on a postcard can be as important as any formal work of art.
The exhibition, curated by Elise Bagnoli, centers on the closeness of family and community, and the ways memories are shared across generations.
While the exhibit will be hosted at the Cultural Center for the Arts in downtown Canton, it is being presented in tandem with the annual Italian American Festival, taking place July 10–12, 2026, at Kent State University at Stark. Together, the exhibit and festival offer opportunities for the community to celebrate Italian-American heritage through art, food, music, traditions and storytelling across two unique community experiences.
The Cultural Center Gallery is located in the lobby of the Main Stage Theater at the Cultural Center for the Arts, 1001 Market Ave. N, Canton, Ohio. The exhibit is available for viewing Thursdays from noon to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
