East West Climb Festival is back for 2026! Join the West Coast Alpine Club, Canterbury Mountaineering Club, and the Canterbury Westland section of the New Zealand Alpine Club for two days of alpine activity in our shared mountain playground, plus a social evening of great kai and yarns, with incredible guest speaker Anna Keeling!
Signups will be opening soon. Look out for the link! If you mark yourself as "Going" on this fb event it doesn't guarantee a place but it does mean you'll be more likely to see updates and have the first chance to sign up.
We'll gather on Friday evening to get to know each other and discuss plans for the weekend. Then get out on a variety of group outings and objectives of various levels on Saturday, followed by a catered meal and social evening. Anna will deliver a presentation looking at good communication for mountaineering parties, peppered with anecdotes from her extensive experience in the New Zealand and North American mountains, and around the world. This is a fabulous opportunity to learn from an IFMGA certified mountain and ski guide and current president of the NZMGA.
This is an alpine climbing meet suitable for anyone with intermediate alpine experience or more, keen to learn, share and connect with other clubs. Attendees must be confident using ice axe and crampons and capable of self-sufficient travel above the snow line and in avalanche terrain.
