EVRY1 S1E4: THE FINALE
About this Event
THE CHOICE: We don't always choose what happens. We choose what happens next.
If you've ever felt like the world is becoming noisier while people are becoming lonelir, you're one of us. We're the people who choose people.
On this night, six people will share their true stories with you.
The finale will feature a story from ERIC EM, a man who arrived in Australia as a boat refugee.
His family fled political oppression in Vietnam. Their journey by boat included starvation and pirate attacks. They eventually made it to Melbourne with little more than the clothes they were wearing. His parents couldn't speak English. They took manual labour jobs and rebuilt from zero.
Eric worked extremely hard, graduated from RMIT with honours in engineering, worked internationally with Mercedes-Benz and went on to build a career in Australia's energy sector.
This is what the Australian dream can look like for families like his: something built across a generation.
A family arrives with almost nothing but the chance to begin again. Their son grows up with opportunities his parents crossed an ocean to give him, and makes the most of them.
What did that beginning cost his parents? And what does their son carry forward?
Eric is only one of SIX.
Jacquie Mync
Jacquie represented Australia as an IFBB professional bodybuilder at the Arnold Classic, but behind her celebrated physique, she was battling anorexia, body dysmorphia and compulsive exercise. Recovery meant questioning everything she'd come to believe about discipline, success and self-worth. When you're being celebrated for the very thing that's hurting you, how do you recognise it's time to change?
MOALE JAMES-PROUD
Moale is a Papua New Guinean–Australian storyteller and award-winning creative producer who helped change a Brisbane venue's entry policy after being refused entry because of her traditional facial markings. But this time, she's taking us somewhere entirely different: inside her hectic, eccentric Papua New Guinean family. Expect unforgettable characters, chaos and plenty of laughter.
DR DINESH PALIPANA OAM
A car accident at 25 left Dinesh quadriplegic halfway through medical school, but he fought to return and became Queensland's first quadriplegic medical intern. Today, he's a doctor, lawyer, researcher, author, disability advocate and former Queensland Australian of the Year. Behind those extraordinary achievements is the human story of a life changed in seconds.
Andrea Gullick
Andrea's first-born baby was diagnosed with cancer at just two days old, and three years later, another devastating event changed her life all over again. Remarkably, she describes these experiences as both the worst and best things that ever happened to her. On November 6, she'll tell us why.
