Everybody Chase The Dinosaur

Last year, We Are Weymouth hosted the third ‘Chase the Dinosaur’ event, as part of 'Dino Week' raising funds for the Will Mackaness Trust and kicking off the February half term in true Jurassic style.
Event Details:

Date: Saturday, 13th February 2026
Time: Registration from 11am, Warm-up at 12:45 AM, Racing starts at 13:00 PM
Location: Weymouth Beach – from the Pavilion end
Race Options:
5km run: Pavilion to Greenhill stones and back (adults)
2km run: Pavilion to Pier Bandstand and back (under 16s)
1km run: Pavilion to Beach Office and back (under 11s)
Pre-school dash: sand sculptures to the Pavilion (with 1 parent)
Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each category, with one participant crowned “THE Dinosaur” of 2026.
Fun run – Not keen on prizes or 5K? Just want to dress up and have fun? Disabilities and need a carer to walk/run with you? Join our final race of the day – a short run to the bandstand and back! all ages different wristbands, same silliness!
This family-friendly event invites participants to don their favourite dinosaur costumes and join in the fun along Weymouth’s iconic coastline. Whether you’re racing to win or just out for a leisurely jog, the day promises plenty of laughs, memories, and a chance to make a difference in the local community.
Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each category, and one lucky participant will earn the honour of becoming “THE Dinosaur” for the 2026 event. Three large Animatronic dinosaurs will be attending doing shows throughout the town from 10am and making an appearance at the race launching the start of Dino week, with activities and shows.

Runners raised double its £1K donation in 2025 giving over £2K to the trust in 2026. Hundreds turned up on the beach to watch the Dino's in action. There were over 320 runners of which 40 were pre-schoolers, all making the most of the glorious February sunshine.
This year we are hoping the event will be our biggest yet, in aid of this great local charity. We are supported by D of E volunteers from Wey Valley Academy to adjudicate and ensure the smooth running of the event.
If we were to give you one piece of advice, we'd suggest you come down on Friday night to avoid the traffic, and make a weekend of it!
