Every Trough Is a Checkpoint: Feed and Water Biosecurity Against Viral and Bacterial Disease

At #Agrilink2026, UNAHCO's Pigrolac will have a seminar that will look at practical ways to make feed and water part of a farm's defense against costly viral and bacterial infections. The session will introduce nutritional acidifiers, explain what to consider when evaluating them, and include a live demonstration of how acidification changes water pH.
Biosecurity does not stop at the farm gate. Footbaths, visitor controls, and vehicle disinfection are familiar parts of farm biosecurity, but feed and water can also become pathways for disease-causing organisms.
The discussion will close with a practical cost-based framework to help raisers assess whether feed or water acidification belongs in their existing biosecurity program.
