Every Day Counts: Building a Culture of Attendance

From this session, you will learn how a coordinated blend of strategies and targeted support can drive meaningful improvements in attendance. You will see how close collaboration with the Local Authority and United Learning establishes clear expectations, aligned policies, and access to specialist services. You will understand how early intervention, consistent systems, and the removal of barriers for pupils and families combine to create a proactive, whole‑school approach. You will also hear from our attendance lead, SLT, and pastoral team about how this joined‑up approach and culture of high expectations have placed our school in the top 10% nationally for overall attendance, and comfortably within the top 10% for pupils in receipt of FSM—despite serving a community where FSM eligibility is significantly above the national average at 36%. You will also have access to a range of practical resources designed to support you in strengthening attendance back in your own setting. By the end of the session, you will know the key strategies and leadership behaviours that underpin sustained, high‑quality attendance outcomes.
