The late Anglican theologian J. I. Packer once described the Prayer Book as 'the Bible arranged for worship'. Many are familiar with the rich veins of biblical content that flows through the Prayer Book. But perhaps few know about the details of how the English Reformers put together such a Scriptural form of worship.
The Prayer Book Society of NSW together with the Royal School of Church Music (NSW) present this informative and participatory evening.
Learn about the origins of Evening Prayer in the Book of Common Prayer as well as the widely-loved choral tradition with which it has enjoyed a centuries long partnership. Come and sing in the Choir for the service! (Music will be provided by pdf after you register for the Choir if you wish to sing).
The evening will consist of a presentation by Mr Gilbert van der Jagt, Diocesan Governance Officer and member of the PBS NSW, and Mr Ross Cobb, Director of Music at St Andrew's Cathedral and Chairman of RSCMNSW. This will be followed by a service of Choral Evensong led by the Reverend Andy Bleach, Rector of Cremorne, with the Right Reverend Chris Edwards, Bishop of North Sydney, as the preacher. Refreshments will be served after the service.
The event is free but we do encourage you to register for catering purposes. Any and all donations to support the work of the PBS NSW and RSCM NSW are gratefully welcome.
